Camera Settings Review 2/25

Updated: Mar 5, 2020

1. Setting the exposure using the histogram: It will show the date, time,

exposure settings, and even a histogram relative to the light exposure in a photo.

2. RAW: It will give you full access to the capabilities of your camera, including the quality of an image file. Rather than compressing low pixel images through the format of a jpg, it will give you a high quality photo.

3. Selecting focus points manually: AF("autofocus") is a useful too that will help you learn how to focus the camera manually, which will help improve skill for taking pictures overall.

4. Learn all AF modes: One-shot AF, Servo AF, AI Autofocus. They all have different uses for different times.

5. Aperture Priority: Priority mode is a dial that allows the usage of exposure options depending on the aperture values.

6. Shutter Priority: The shutter priority can control the shutter speed of the camera depending on the settings selected.

7. Control/Motion Blur: Occurs depending on the skill of the photographer and the slowness of the shutter speed.

8. Manual White Balance: A preset function that balances out white light in a picture, another form of a filter.

9. Drive modes: There are three drive modes: single shot, low continuous low, and continuous high. One is for making portraits of models and the other is made for shooting sports, wildlife and anything that moves fast.

10. Metering modes: It measures statistics in the camera such as light variables, being able to calculate what the camera needs to take the right photo.

11. ISO: ISO values help correct lighting conditions. Low ISO values in high amounts of light. High ISO values in low light.

12. Auto-ISO: This function is for hand-held use of a camera. It will increase or decrease the value in order to allow you to shoot with a shutter speed fast enough for hand held operation.

13: Exposure Compensation: A scale that allows your camera to increase or decrease exposure.

14: Manual Exposure: The last stage of learning how to use your camera's setting is full manual control. It is the one function even a novice photographer should use.
